Made of plastic rather than ceramic, it is a lighter, lower-cost option for a tree that has not yet been moved into a display-quality pot, or for a nursery bench holding several small trees at once. It still performs the same basic function as its ceramic counterparts, protecting whatever surface it sits on from water and helping maintain a bit of humidity around the foliage.
